Regarding June > Pride Month
I received this email and wanted to share it with everyone.  The Markiewicz' have given me permission to share this and I wanted everyone to know that things do get better.  What a great honor for Justin and Cheryl & Bob.  Justin thought our chapter's 22 years was impressive.  I also thank them for their kind words>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Hello Jim,
Please click the link below and you will see that our son, Justin Markiewicz, has been identified as a Pride Hero this year.  He receives his award on June 3rd.  As you will see, he is a policeman in Washington DC.  Justin graduated from Sallies in 2002 and is now 31 years old.
I'm not sure if you remember Bob and I, but we remember you.  We attended several meetings years ago as we started on this journey and we appreciated your help.  We have been quiet members since then.  I always 'thank you for all you do' when I send the dues.  So here we are today, still on our journey, but extremely proud of our son.
I just thought you might like to know that you and your meetings make a difference.
take care, Cheryl and Bob Markiewicz

Learning someone you love is gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or intersexual can be very distressing.  PFLAG - Parents, Families & Friends Of Lesbians & Gays,  promotes the health and well-being of Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Transgender and Intersexual persons, their families and friends through: Support, coping with an adverse society;  Education, enlightening an ill-informed public; Advocacy, working to end discrimination and secure civil-rights.  PFLAG is parents, families, friends, and allies united with LGBT people to move equality forward.  PFLAG provides the opportunity for dialog about sexual orientation in a confidential setting.  You do not have to be a member to attend our meetings.  We meet the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 13th & Rodney Sts, Wilmington, DE.  We start at 7pm & end at 9pm.  We meet in classroom #8, which is through the double oak doors on the 13th street side of the church, down the steps and all the way back to the next to last door on the right.  There is plenty of parking on 13th street or across the street in the church lot.  You do not have to be a paid member to attend>>all are welcome.

Please join us for the inaugural meeting of the Rehoboth area's Delaware Renaissance Group. We welcome anyone who identifies anywhere on the transgender, gender nonconforming, or gender conforming spectrum as long as you are willing to accept and support anyone else anywhere else on the spectrum; yes this means families and allies are welcome too. The only thing on the agenda for this meeting will be planning what we want from the group going forward. The meeting will be from 8 pm until 10 pm on Saturday the 27th at the Tunnell Cancer Center, 8941 John J Williams Highway, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 in the McCurry Conference Room. Enter at the rear of the Tunnell Cancer Center through the entrance marked as the Medical Arts Pavilion.  For more info please email:   amandaw@delren.org
Thursday May 21 was National Give Out Day
But It's Never Too Late To Give And We Thank You!

Some of you may be aware of the 3nd annual Give Out Day.  This is a special day set aside for anyone to make contributions to their favorite non-profit organization.  We did participate last year but it was not that successful.  I have decided not to participate this year as they have changed the collection facility.  They had required some paper work and they were going to charge 4.5% plus $.25 per transaction, and a $1 per month activation charge.  I didn't feel it was worth it.   NOW....I would like to solicit donations or dues to help us raise some funds for our treasury.  We would be happy to accept your check or money order and there would be no participation fee at all.   NEW NOW>>You also may donate through our website on the Membership/Dues page by using the PayPal Donate button.  All major credit/debit cards are accepted.  PayPal does charge a fee of 2.2% & $.30 per transaction but that is much better than Give Out Day.  I am working with PayPal now for final approval as a 501c3 non-profit status with them.
Yes we are a 501c3 non-profit status with the IRS.
We have had inquiries showing interest in a LGBTQ youth support group in the New Castle County area and, in fact, have had a couple of trial meetings.  We really are sincerely looking to increase the participation in the group.  We have determined that an age group of 12 to 18 will be best.  There is no such group in our area and the only thing available is if their schools have a GSA program.  The group will be under the direction of licensed professional counselor , Barbara P. Conrad, MS & certified in Gestalt Therapy, & Sharon Zimmer, MS in Educational Counseling .  Sharon & Barbara facilitated a similar group several years ago and are anxious to get the group back up and running.  The coming out process is tough enough and it will be great to have a place our LGBTQ youth can turn to for help and support.
Please direct any questions, comments, interest regarding place and time of meetings to our email:  pflagwilmde@att.net, or to Sharon Zimmer at cztwins@hotmail.com.

Big Brothers & Big Sisters Now Has A Mentoring Program for LGBT Youth

Did you know that 7.5% of Delaware youth identify as LGBTQ? Most don’t have someone they feel comfortable talking to about the important things going on in their lives, but Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware with the United Way of Delaware want to change that. With Big Brothers Big Sisters, we aim to match LGBTQ youth with an LGBTQ or allied adult, someone who they can talk to and trust. Do you know an adult or youth who would benefit from our program?
