Parents of Trans Kids and Support Group - PTKDelaware
PFLAG-Wilmington, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, & United Way of Delaware PRIDE Council announces a new support group for Parents of Trans KIDS.

Monthly meetings are on the 3rd Thursday of the month starting at 6:30 pm at Nemours duPont Hospital, 1600 Rockland Rd, Wilmington DE 1980 (stop at the Welcome Desk for directions to our meeting room).  If you would like to attend a meeting, please email your name along with the age of your child to PTKDelaware@gmail.com

Parents will be able to network with other families that are going through similar experiences while raising a transgender or non-gender conforming child. The goal of the group is to provide parents a safe space where they can discuss what issues are important to them. They will have the chance to raise questions, share resources, network and listen to the experience of other parents whose children are gender diverse. Issues explored will include school, legal matters, privacy, siblings, extended family, and medical.

Directions to Nemours duPont Hospital - upon entering the campus at 1600 Rockland Road continue on the driveway. After the playground, make your first left to a surface parking lot. Once parked proceed to the front of the blue glass section of the hospital where you will enter the Fusco Atrium.  The Welcome Desk will be on your right

LGBTQ Youth Support Group Meeting

This is an open group and all denominations are welcomed.  We have determined that an age group of 12 to 18 will be best.  There is no other such group in our area and the only support groups available is if their schools have a GSA program.  The group will be under the direction of licensed professional counselor, Barbara P. Conrad, MS & certified in Gestalt Therapy, & Sharon Zimmer, MS in Educational Counseling.  Sharon & Barbara facilitated a similar group several years ago and are looking forward to getting the group back up and running.  The coming out process is tough enough and it will be great to have a place our LGBTQ youth can turn to for help and support.

Meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month at the Jewish Family Services Building, 99 Passmore Road, Wilmington DE 19803. (The meeting building is just off route 202, north of Silverside Road; driving north on 202, take the 1st left just after Ashley Furniture.)

You MUST confirm attendance 2 days prior to the meeting by texting Sharon Zimmer, 302-438-1545 or  email:  cztwins@hotmail.com.
Please help spread the word throughout the area and we THANK Sharon & Barbara for their work on this project.

The only thing on the agenda for this meeting will be planning what we want from the group going forward. The meeting will be from 8 pm until 10 pm on Saturday the 27th at the Tunnell Cancer Center, 8941 John J Williams Highway, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 in the McCurry Conference Room.  Big Brothers & Big Sisters Mentoring Program for LGBT Youth

Did you know that 7.5% of Delaware youth identify as LGBTQ? Most don’t have someone they feel comfortable talking to about the important things going on in their lives, but Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware with the United Way of Delaware want to change that. With Big Brothers Big Sisters, we aim to match LGBTQ youth with an LGBTQ or allied adult, someone who they can talk to and trust. Do you know an adult or youth who would benefit from our program? Contact Big Brothers Big Sisters today. For info call Colleen Dougherty,Big Brother Big Sisters of DE, LGBTQ Mentor Case Manager,   (302) 998-3577,   cdougherty@bbbsde.org
